US ambassador meets opposition again: Mediu: “Let’s go beyond red lines”

The US Ambassador returned for negotiations with the opposition leader,
Lulzim Basha, 11 days after the failed meeting between the Prime
Minister and the opposition leader.

The US Embassy blamed the opposition for the failed negotiations, saying that they didn’t show flexibility for the justice reform.

There were no details about the meeting, but the main ally of the DP, Fatmir Mediu, left to be understood that they were looking for a solution based on the Venice Commission recommendations.

“I believe that the meeting with the US ambassador is on the same line with the meetings of other ambassadors. I believe that the majority will reflect, not by putting red lines, but by finding a concrete solution to this case, especially because members of the majority share the same stance with the opposition on this matter. The only side that doesn’t agree and has tendencies to control the judiciary is the SP”, Mediu declared.

According to Mediu, it is important for the parties to not see the red lines of Venice. “We have all agreed that Rama is not the one who establishes red lines. Not Basha, not anyone else, but only the Venice Commission. This Commission has also established the green lines, to show how a solution can be found in case of political disagreements”, Mediu said.

The Head of the United for Human Rights Party, Vangjel Dule, supported the idea to continue working for dialogue.
