US Ambassador Yuri Kim, through a letter addressed to the leaders of the three main political parties in the country, Edi Rama, Lulzim Basha and Monika Kryemadhi, demanded “purity” for the next Assembly by urging the leaders to take responsibility for parliamentary candidates so that they are not affected by the decriminalization law.
“You are responsible for the future candidates. We encourage all parties to check the candidates and to run only those who respect the Albanian voters. The United States will continue to fight corruption and we will stand by those officials who fight it,” the letter reads.
Yuri Kim’s letter comes on the eve of the start of preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections. Meanwhile, today President Meta requested a consecutive meeting between Lulzim Basha and Edi Rama on Friday at the Presidency to consult on the date of the elections.
