US Ambassador: “Fight against crime must be above political interests”

The US Ambassador to Tirana, Donald Lu, declared that the cultivation of
narcotics in our country has reduced and for this he thanked the work
of the State Police.
“The fight against organized crime and drugs has made a huge step through this air operation with the Guardia di Finanza and the State Police. The data collected this year showed the extraordinary progress in eliminating the drugs in Lazarat and in the new cultivation areas. We believe that the cannabis cultivation in Albania is much lower”, Lu declared.
For the US, the crime must be treated equally. The US Ambassador spoke about the help given by the US in this fight. He said they have just appointed a federal Prosecutor who will work with the anti-corruption unit at the Prosecution of Serious Crimes.
Donald Lu reiterated the US help for the National Office of Investigation, and appealed the Albanian political class to cooperate.
“The majority and opposition have frequently accused each other for ties with the crime. The fight against crime must come above the political parties. Albania needs all leaders to work together and fight criminals, traffickers and corrupted officials”, Lu declared.
