The US Ambassador to Tirana, Donald Lu, was involved with the political
debate about whose was the victory for the justice reform.
“The ones who deserve the honor are the people who are not here today. Your friends, neighbors, the Albanian people. I have spoken with dozens of MPs recently and each of them said they wanted to vote this reform, because they were fearing the people. We have often been stopped in the road by people who say they want the reform”, Lu declared.
“The resistance against the reform was real, and its had its heroes and antiheroes. But none of them is more powerful than the voice of the Albanian people”, the Ambassador declared.
“Hundreds of citizens gathered in front of the Parliament with slogans demanding the reform, under the sun of a very hot day, while Parliament Members passed in front of them with air-conditioned BMWs and Mercedeses. I am pleased that the political leaders heard this voice. The resistance against this reform was real”, he said.
The US Ambassador, one of the main protagonists of this reform, said he is aware passing the constitutional laws is not enough.
“I hope the leaders will keep their promise to the Albanian people by fully implementing this reform. A true democracy is when the leaders hear the people’s will”, Lu said.
