
The US ambassador Alexander Arvizu suggested changes in the Albanian legislation for limiting the immunity of high rank officials.
During a meeting with common investigation units, Arvizu declared that the prosecutors have a very important role in investigation and that Albania has had successes and failures.
“I want to remind the immunity concept, because different European countries give different limited immunity to public officials. Albania is the only country in Europe that limits the investigations that can be made against judges and high rank officials. I know that many of you have expressed the concern that this would be very difficult, but you have also said that this impedes the investigations”, Arvizu declared.
The Minister of Finances, Ridvan Bode, declared that they are investigating several money laundering cases with revenues from corruption activities. The head of the Informative Service, Bahir Shaqiri, offered active cooperation against organized crime.
Prosecutor Ina Rama declared after this activity that they haven’t violated any procedure regarding the case of Ilir Meta, and that the accusations of the Former Deputy Prime Minister are just a political rhetoric. For the first Prosecutor, the case will continue only in court.
“It is just a political rhetoric. We have left everything to the Court”, Rama declared.
The Deputy Interior Minister Pekaj and head of the High Inspectorate of Declaration and Audit of Assets, Adriatik Llalla, declared that they were committed in the war against organized crime and corruption.
