The President of the Constitutional Court declared in an interview for Top Channel that the Court had only five member judges, from 9 in total.
The President of Albania, Ilir Meta, opened the race for two vacancies that are appointed by the President. The same thing will be done by the Parliament.
Sources from the Socialist Party said for Top Channel that concrete steps will be taken next week for the judges that are appointed by the Parliament so that the Constitutional Court will not come to a stalemate.
But with the new judiciary reform, the new members of the court must be vetted first by the new institutions, which have not been appointed yet.
Sources say that the Socialist Party is ready to admit judges that have not been vetted, but their final stay at the Court will depend on the vetting results.
The members of the Constitutional Court will be elected by a qualified majority, which means that they need consensus from both parties. If there will be consensus, this will be decided by the names of candidates.
