Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Albanian consumer is exposed to a series of risks that come from foods produced with hormones or other additives.
The head of the National Food Authority admitted the fact by saying that this is a problem spread throughout Europe, when farmers abuse with the doses of pesticide and substances that stimulate growth of plants.
“These are stimulants that are used all over the world for the integrated agriculture, but in Albania there is a non-professional usage. We are giving our maximal efforts for making the farmers aware, but this is a problem in all Europe. The Food and Veterinary Institution will receive a financial support for building the analysis of the additives and hormonal basis in vegetables and beverages”, declared the head of the NFA, Genc Juka.
Juka says that they are inspecting the 474 pharmacies that bring chemical products for the market.
NFA says that farmers are not the only ones who abuses, since their inspectors have seized 14 tons of food with overdue expiry date in many supermarkets. The NFA director appeals the citizens to not buy meat at the Fushe-Kruje-Lac road, where the animals are killed and sold without any control.
Juka explains that the NFA is intensively inspecting the Fast Foods in tourist areas.
