Union reacts on trial against reporter

The Journalist Bashkim Sula risks 3 years to prison for having reported a protest of the Mamez village residents, in Kukes.

Kukes Police accuses the journalist of participating in the protest and have opened an process against him. The journalist admits of being present in the protest, but for reporting the news.

“Kukes Police says that I should be fined with 5 million ALL or sentenced to three years in prison, because I reported a protest, doing my job”, says Shala.

The Journalist Union declares that this is unprecedented act of pressure on press due to the duty.

The Journalist Union denounced other occasions when the journalists were held in penal processes, such as Ferdinand Dushi, who one of the characters of his book, with a criminal history, opened a suit at the Tirana Criminal Court.

The Union asks the high rank Police authorities, prosecution and judicial system to exert their authority towards these cases.
