UNESCO summit, Topi: Kosovo to be present

The United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO)
chose Mostari, the martyr town of the Bosnian war, as the host for the
10th regional Summit of the “Religious and historical-cultural
heritage”.

The emblematic 430-year-old bridge was destroyed during the war, and is being reconstructed by UNESCO. According to UNESCO, the historical and cultural heritage must serve as a basis of intensive cooperation between the countries.

In his speech at the Summit, the Albanian President, Bamir Topi, mentioned the specifics of the Albanian religious affiliations, which is composed of five different religious groups who live in full harmony with each other. Topi underlined that religion has never been used for political and state impositions against the minorities in Albania.

According to the president, the same character goes for the Albanians who live in other countries, such as Kosovo, Macedonia or other communities in the Diaspora. In the press conference, the president noted the absence of Kosovo.

“We see the restoration of world heritage works as very important for the heritage even in Kosovo, but it is still unclear and not according the modern set of mind for Balkan, the fact that Kosovo is still not present in these unions. My opinion is that the communication politics in the future, and in function of the cultural heritage should have representatives from Kosovo”, Topi declared.

During the summit, Topi met the Macedonian President, Djordje Ivanov, the UNESCO General Director, Irina Bokova, the President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanovic and the President of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bakir Izetbegovic.
