Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future A few daysa go the National Food Authority secured the Albanian
consumers that the meat they are consuming is under control, and they
excluded the possibility that hormones were being used for the
artificial growth of animals.
But what really happens is that veterinarian pharmacies in different countries prove the contrary. Top Channel’s hidden cameras filmed how Boldomec was bought very easily in veterinarian pharmacies of Shkoder.
The Customs Directory declared that Boldemec has not entered our country. But besides Shkoder, this product can be easily bought in Elbasan. The instructions of the medicament clearly show that the medicine is not used for animals that will be used for their meat, at least 42 days after the medicine was given.
Veterinarians say that if the animal will have that medicament, it could cause liver damage to humans.
“Excessive hormones bring liver cancer and increase cholesterol by ruining the hormonal balance due to the negative phenomena in humans”, declared veterinarian Arben Qafzezi.
This hormone has been used since 1930 for dogs and horses, in order to increase their muscular performance. EU countries have stopped the usage of this dangerous hormone for years now.
The same thing was decided in Albania through two decisions in 2006 and 2011, but the fact that anyone could buy them in pharmacies puts in question the safety of what we consume.
