With around 1.4 million emigrants living abroad, mainly in Italy and Greece, the Albanian Diaspora represents a great unexploited potential for our country.

The UN International Organization for Migration announced a new program that aims increasing involvement of the Albanian Diaspora for the social and economic development of Albania.

The program is funded by the Italian Cooperation, under the political commitment of the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development.

The program will be implemented by the International Organization for Migration in cooperation with the Albanian State Ministry for the Diaspora, the Albanian Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Finances and Economy.

The three-year program will focus on the Albanian Diaspora in Italy, with a presence of around 500,000 citizens.

The Italian Ambassador to Albania, Alberto Cutillo, underlined the important role of the Diaspora.

“Migrants have talents and knowledge. These are basic values for cooperation. Our countries could benefit a lot from the involvement of the Diaspora”, he said.

The State Minister for Diaspora, Pandeli Majko, considered the Albanians in Italy as a great asset for our country.

“The Albanians living abroad are almost an unexploited asset for the nation. This project is very important, because it will give us an effective approach to the unlimited potential of our Diaspora”, he said.
