The British Labourists have expressed their readiness to help and assist
the Albanian Socialist Party in their program for a National Rebirth.
During his visit in London, Rama met with the UK Labour Party leader, Ed Milliband. Rama presented the road that the Socialist Party is following for coming to power, and the ideas brought in the “National Rebirth” program.
In the meeting with the former British Foreign Minister, David Milliband, at the same time Director of Policies under the Tony Blair government, they spoke about the program and the importance of involving the public in the creation of policies.
“I am happy that I had the possibility to meet Mr. Rama. I was very impressed by his vision for this country and his party. We talked about several challenges, such as unemployment in front of the economic and social changes that our countries are facing, and also about the international situation, because in the modern world, the international and internal issues are very closely related. We also discussed about our parties, for being part of a strong movement that includes many people. I am looking forward for Mr. Rama’s success”, Milliband declared.
“We are very impressed by the meeting with the UK Labour Party leader, Ed Milliband, and the shadow Foreign Minister, Douglas Alexander, and especially with David Milliband, who listened to our National Rebirth Program, as one of the foundation stones in the transformation process of Tony Blair’s party, which was a very important information resource, and the fact that the program revived his enthusiasm and makes us return in Tirana as if we had wings”, Rama declared.
During his visit in London, Edi Rama, together with the Secretary for Youth and Emigration, Erion Veliaj, held a lecture at the prestigious London School of Economics, where he presented his program to the students and the Albanian community members in London.
The students asked Rama about the unemployment reduction and other matters related with the program. One student asked how would the health system work in the next Socialist government.
“We have decided that this is not a matter of money, but a matter of dignity to enable insurance for everybody, regardless the financial possibilities. We cannot keep having this situation, with almost 1 million of unemployed people or that work in the informal sector, where they cannot receive insurance. This leaves them without healthcare, because they have no money to pay. A universal healthcare is our vision, and a national healthcare is our plan. The concrete articulation of this plan is the objective of our working group for the health issues, based on the international experience for a universal healthcare. There is no other solution for Albania”, Rama declared.
Rama’s visit in London comes a few days after the one in the US, where he held a series of intensive meetings with the high rank US officials, including the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe, Philip Reeker.
