“CH Aviation”, a swiss portal specialized on aviation industry news, reports that Air Albania has already been forgotten, while the aeroplanes received from Turkish Airlines were taken back to Turkey.
The idea for creating a national air company was announced on July 2017 as an initiative between Prime Minister Edi Rama and Turkish president Erdogan. The initiative was made official one year later.
On June 2018, Air Albania was created as a company with three shareholders: “Turkish Airlines, MDN Investment, and Albcontrol.
Right after the creation, the Albanian Prime Minister gave dates about when Albanian would be able to travel on their own national airline.
The initiative was expected to lower prices of flights for Albanians, who have been paying too much, for many years, due to an exclusive monopoly.
