A patient with brain tumor who has underwent brain surgery and has not
been cured, follows a radio-surgery treatment that is offered for the
first time in Albania’s biggest hospital center, the Tirana University
Hospital Center.
There are more than 100 patients who need this treatment each month, but for the moment it will only cover 30.
“The team is engaged during the entire day. The equipment is open for conventional treatments, even for the entire body”, explained Prof.Dr.Mentor Petrela.
The Health Minister, Ilir Beqja, who was present during the patient’s treatment, dclared that soon there will be a second accelerator at the Hospital, and he promised to guarantee a good flow of medical materials that are needed.
“The directory and the Ministry must guarantee a constant service, with long-term maintenance agreements, with constant supply of materials, etc. The hospital will also hire new physicians and oncologists”, Beqja declared.
Besides head tumors, this accelerator will also treat other diseases until a second accelerator will be made available. The Head of the Oncology valued the arrival of this equipment, which is the last hope for these patients.
“The funds have increased five times. It is important that we are making a major investment”, Agim Sallaku declared.
This treatment in other countries would cost 15,000 EUR. The Albanian patients will now be able to get treated in their own country without paying this cost.
