Trump proposes new Ambassador to Tirana

President Donald Trump appointed Kathleen Ann Kavalec as the plenipotentiary ambassador of the USA to Albania.

If approved by the Senate, she will replace the current ambassador, Donald Lu, whose term has expired.

Kavalec currently operates as Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Bureau of European and Eurasian matters at the US State Department. She has more than 30 years of diplomatic experience.

She has served as Director of Russian Affairs Office, Vice Chief of the UNESCO US Mission in Paris, Vice Coordinator for Assistance at the European Bureau and Director for Preventing Conflicts at the Coordination Office for Reconstruction and Stabilization.

Kavalec speaks French. Romanian, Ukrainian, Russian, Spanish and Portuguese. It is still unknown if she will be able to speak Albanian in Tirana.
