Tributes were held today in Tirana in honor of the policeman Afrim Bunjaku, the hero of Kosovo who was killed yesterday in the line of duty in the north of Kosovo.

Citizens are lighting candles in Mother Teresa Square in his honor, while holding KLA and Kosovo flags.

Bunjaku was killed on Sunday north of Mitrovica during a gun attack on the police by a group of suspected Serbian terrorists.

Today at his funeral in Zveçan, Kosovo, family members, citizens, members of the government cabinet, deputies and foreign ambassadors participated in the burial.

President Vjosa Osmani stated that Bunjaku made the most sublime sacrifice in defense of the homeland.

“As we say goodbye to the hero Afrim Bunjaku, we must bring to attention his courage and selflessness, which he showed throughout his career. Afrimi is the personification of the patriot and the professional, who from 2001 wore the uniform of the Kosovo Police, and until his heroic fall in the line of duty, he proved his devotion to the Republic,” declared Osmani.

Kosova Prime Minister Albin Kurti also stated that Sergeant Bunjaku fell as a hero to protect the peace and security of the country.
