Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The British embassy is defending the Shkrel farmers who have been reported to cultivate hashish.
102 farmers risk prison, while their crops were destroyed, after the police accused them of cultivating hashish. The court postponed the process once again, while the British diplomat declared that what the farmers had been cultivating was just a hemp plant that looks like hashish.
“The British embassy has followed the case very closely and we are very concerned that the court hasn’t yet come out with a verdict. We have a delayed and denied justice. The continuity of this unclear situation has turned into a stress for the farmers and their families, and keeps threatening the reputation of the British charity association. This British association is called “Partner for Development” and it is officially registered in Britain, and they have no precedent for illegal activity of any kind. The Embassy will follow the progress of the case and we hope to see impartial justice as soon as possible”, declared diplomat Hana Batcheler.
The defensive lawyer of the farmers opposed the decision to postpone the process.
