Trial against Fatmir Mediu started

The Supreme Court has started the trial against the former Minister of Defence, Fatmir Mediu, charged of light injuries.

Mediu’s lawyer asked the Court to suspend the case, since his client was not found guilty in the past case. The lawyer adds that the same evidence cannot find him guilty this time for light injury.

But the judge panel led by Shkelzen Selimi decided to continue the trial. Three years ago, the Constitutional Court rejected the case but not in favour of the defendant, by turning the case to the Supreme Court for a review.

This decision of the Constitutional Court allows the Gerdec victims’ relatives to confront the current Environment Minister in trial. The lawyers of the victims’ relatives presented the files with more than 400 evidences, and the court asked for their selection in the new session.

Roxhers Durdaj and Alketa Harizaj have accused Mediu as the person who caused their damage since December 2009. If a defendant with these charges will be found guilty, he might expect fine or 1 year of prison.
