48 hours after the parties have submitted the lists of candidates that
will run in the June 23rd elections, the Central Election Commission is
still keeping the lists secret not only for the media, but also for the
parties involved in the process.
Based on the transparency principle and on an article of the Electoral Code that allows interested parties to get acquainted with every request at the Central Election Commission, the Socialist Party legal representative (Genc Gjoncaj) asked access to the candidates’ list and its accompanying documentation.
“This issue goes very well with the transparency principle for the Central Election Commission, and it helps the process with the identification of candidates from all actors who will take part in the elections”, Gjoncaj declared.
The request of the Socialist Party legal representative comes after several media outlets stated that the Democratic Party has not submitted its lists at the Central Election Commission, but were left at the Chairwoman’s office because they were not complete yet and were even changed.
But the Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission, Lefteri Lleshi, declared that the lists will be published within May 14th, the official deadline given by the Central Election Commission.
Four Central Election Commission members also passed the candidacy of Arben Malaj as independent candidate in Vlore. This institution has also approved the Commissions that will have two ballot counters from the Democratic Party and two from the opposition.
