Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The increase of road accidents and the number of victims, mainly due to
the infringement of traffic rules, has obliged the government to take
harsher measures for the drivers.
This initiative is expected to enter in act very soon. The Commission of Laws approved with consensus the changes proposed by the Road Code, including some amends offered by the Civil Society, which were heard in the commission after the request of some Socialist MPs. For preventing further accidents and for decreasing the number of victims, the government proposed to quadruple all fines foreseen by the current Road Code.
In a discussion that was held after the persistence of the Socialist MPs, all Commission of Laws members decided to reduce the government decision from quadrupling to doubling the fines. For some infringements that will be considered by specialists as most frequent causes of accidents, the fine will be doubled again, such as trespassing the speed limit and driving without the seatbelt, under the influence of alcohol and without license.
The Road Code amends predict more severe fines for the young drivers and those who have been driving for less than three years. According to the statistics, these groups are more prone to cause accidents.
The road code amends, proposed by the government and approved through consensus by the opposition aim to prevent accidents and educate drivers for making people’s life safer.
