Topi: Institutions to support politically persecuted persons

The Albanian President, Bamir Topi, asked the main institutions in the country to honor the persecuted people of communism as they deserve, by realizing as soon as possible the compensation scheme and giving them support in many directions.

“We must leave behind segmental elements, and politics must do what it should be done for the persecuted class”, Topi declared.

The Albanian President gave this declaration after paying homage at the Politically Imprisoned and Persecuted People building, in honor of Sokol Sokoli and Tom Ndoja, two young people fusilladed without trial in 1984, whose remains were found a few days ago at Kuç village, Shkoder.

The Parliament Speaker Jozefina Topalli paid homage too and she also considered as “hypocrisy” the medals taken by people who have been known as executioners of those who opposed the regime. The Albanian President Bamir Topi answered the journalists’ interest about this matter, saying that this declaration is wrong.

“The President never decorates people by personal initiative. The proposals come in official ways, through other institutions”, Topi declared, noting that he himself is part of a politically persecuted family.

The Prime Minister Sali Berisha participated at this event, expressing his gratitude to the democracy martyrs, who, according to him, were executed by a barbarian regime for having used the freedom of speech and trust in God: “I express my gratitude to their families and to all of them who sacrificed with many years in prison for showing the best values that the human society has achieve”, Berisha declared.
