The Emir of Kuwait, sheik Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jabir al-Sabah welcomed the
Albanian president with a majestic reception. The sheik himself welcomed
him in Airport, where the Albanian hymn was played in presence of the
main government dignitaries.
Kuwait is the Persian Gulf country with which Albania has the earliest relations, since 20 June 1968. Kuwait is a very small country, almost as half of Albania, and as the Emir declared on his way to the capital, God gave Kuwait only a hot weather, sand and oil. But with almost 10% of world’s oil reserves and the third oil producer in the world after Saudi Arabia and Iraq, Kuwait has a lost of money to invest.
As regards politics, Albania and Kuwait have always found agreement about everything, starting from the Palestinian issue, which Kuwait follows very closely, and even to Kosovo, which Kuwait has recognized as independent and promises that will lobby with other countries too.
The main discussion topic of President Topi with the new President of the Assembly, Ahmed Abdulaziz al-Sadoun and then with the Prime Minister Sheik Jaber al-Mubarak al-Ahmad al-Sabah, were the Kuwaiti investments in Albania. Albania thinks that it could offer good investment possibilities to Kuwait. The government removed the visa for all Kuwaiti visitors for the tourist season, and is negotiating for a facilitated visa regime for the future. The Kuwaiti investments in Albania are mainly focused on hotels and road financings.
The Emir was personally involved in the reconstruction of the Skenderbej Square, with 5 million USD and 4 million USD that were given to the Gerdec victims. In sign of appreciation, Presidenti Topi honored him with the Gjergj Kastrioti Skenderbeu order.
The sheik then honored President Topi with “High Order of Mubarak” and accepted the invitation to visit Albania.
This exchange of honors proves the excellent relations between the two countries.
