Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Albanian President, Bamir Topi, declared during a joint press
conference with the Montenegrin homologue that he will boycott the
Ukrainian summit due to the bad treatment that the Ukrainian authorities
are conducting with the former Prime Minister, Yulia Tymoshenko.
By joining other EU countries with his decision, the Albanian President is the first of Southeastern Europe that boycotts this summit.
“Yesterday I presented my stance to the diplomatic structures that manage this summit for not being part of it, by joining the side of other EU countries that protested against the inhuman treatment of the former Prime Minister, Yulia Tymoshenko. The boycott is not against the values of the Summit of Presidents or the hosting country, but to the standard of democracy which is now facing a crisis”, Topi declared.
The Montenegrin President, Philip Vujanovic, valued the stabilization role of Albania in the region.
Both presidents expressed their commitments to deepen and expand the constant and efficient cooperation in the areas of mutual interests, the most imporant of which is inter-boundary cooperation and the realization of the EU integration aspirations of both countries.
