Albania and Pakistan have opened a new chapter in their relations, with
the visit of the Speaker of the Pakistani Parliament in Albania, Fahmida
Mirza.
Mrs. Mirza is visiting Tirana with the invitation of the Albanian homologue, Jozefina Topalli, marking the first official visit of a high rank politician from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Albania.
The Pakistani Parliament Speaker, which leads the Parliamentary Group of the Albania-Pakistan Friendship, gave the idea of establishing a joint Parliamentary Commission not only for exchanging the legislative experiences, but also for inciting cooperation in all fields.
Supporting this idea, the Albanian Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli expressed her conviction that this visit will serve for improving the economic relations, a field that is still unexplored with Pakistan, a country of 170 million citizens.
One of the main topics in this meeting was Kosovo, about which Mrs. Topalli praised the fact that Pakistan has held a positive stance, but that Albania would appreciate if these stances would result with the recognition of Kosovo’s independence.
On her behalf, Mrs. Mirza emphasized that Pakistan, as one of most influential countries in the Islamic Organization Conference, has taken in serious consideration the matter of Kosovo and any decision will be taken in full accordance with the international principles and laws.
