The opposition has accused the government once again of having ties with cannabis trafficking criminals, saying that there is evidence compromising two Mayors of the Socialist Party.
For the first time, the Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, said that they will not allow the majority to appoint the new Prosecutor, even a temporary one, after the PG Adriatic Llalla’s expires on December 3rd.
But what is the public’s impact after these accusations? To discuss this, tonight’s guests on Top Story were analysts Skënder Minxhozi, Agron Gjekmarkaj, Arjan Vasjari and Alfred Lela.
Minxhozi said that what the USA is clearly demanding is for Albania to continue the Vetting Law without Prosecutor Adriatik Llalla, whose mandate will expire, and that this was made clear through the OPDAT mission from USA and the Euralius from EU.
“The message of the USA partners is that there can be no vetting law with Llalla as Prosecutor General. This is how I understand this”, Minxhozi said.
For Vasjari, the debate is not about Llalla, but because a Pandora box was open with accusations, now and scandals cannot stop.
“We must start using the logic of the new judiciary reform. We have reached a great victory and we should abandon once and for all the idea that the Prosecutor General was appointed by one political party, and now it will be the other one appointing him. There will be no concern after Llalla’s mandate will expire”, Vasjari said.
Alfred Lela, on the other hand, said that the opposition is right to raise its voice for the parameters that are needed before appointing the next Prosecutor General.
“The discussion is about the parameters, who appoints him and who are the candidates. The opposition is right in this aspect”, Lela said.
Gjekmarkaj, on the other hand, says that the declarations of Basha about the new Prosecutor General are very similar to those of Edi Rama five years ago.
