The debate for the liberation of Albania from Nazi Germany is still unclear, with both political parties holding different opinions.

According to the left wing, the last Nazi German has left Albania on November 29th, more specifically, the city of Shkoder, which was liberated last.

For the Democratic Party, this was just an effort of former Dictator Enver Hoxha to unite our celebration with Yugoslavia.

Unfortunately, this debate has been led by politicians, not by historians, who should be the ones discussing it.

Top Story met with two historians this Wednesday, Marenglen Kasmi and Valentina Duka.

Kasmi showed for the first time a document of the German army, taken from archives and signed on November 30th, 1944. This document clarifies once and for all the debate for the past 25 years, because it says that the Germans have released Shkodra on November 29th, without resistance.

Valentina Duka said that by choosing November 11th as the Liberation Date from the Nazi, would make it easier to avoid the debate.

“Every country celebrates the day when the capital was liberated. We could make November 17th and avoid dilemmas. The council that decided for the Liberation Date, in 1945, have also referred to Octoebr 22nd, which was the date for the liberation of Belgrade”, said the historian and Democratic Party MP, Valentina Duka, also adding that she doesn’t support the theory of her colleagues, who say that November 29th was established by Hoxha to serve Yugoslavia.
