Top Story traveled this Tuesday to the “fortress” in Lentini, Sicily, the home that the Habilaj gang members used as base of their activity, a few kilometers from Catania.
The Italian Guardia di Finanza started an investigation four years ago, after receiving information about this group.
Officers put audio surveillance on their vehicles, when they were at a gas station.
The surveillance led to the seizing of 1650 kilograms of cannabis, without being able to arrest anyone.
The Prosecution found that the real base of the Habilaj gang was in Lentini, 30 kilometers from Catania.
The street is a very calm one, but residents refuse to speak about Habilaj or the other people involved.
Lentini was strategically chosen by the Habilaj, since it is between Catania and the other areas where inflatable powerboats would arrive with cannabis from Albania. They used to meet at the Lentini hospital, to avoid suspicions.
