Top Channel’s journalist ban from entering Greece and the claim of the Greek authorities that he is an unwanted person in the neighboring country has caused reactions even at the Greek Parliament.
The radical left MP, Maria Janakachi asked an interpellation about this case, writing that although she doesn’t agree with the topics treated by Mema’s news reports and the stance of Top Channel about these issues, she wants to be informed about the procedures that were followed for declaring Mema “unwanted”.
“The action that declared Mema ‘unwanted’ has spurred harsh reactions at the Albanian government, the Albanian and Greek public opinion and the European media”, she writes.
“The public opinion, the civil society and European human rights associations have reacted against this action that violates the international free movement conventions, by creating a negative climate in the mutual relations and by violating the freedom of speech”, the Greek MP underlines.
“Concerned about this, I would want to ask the Interior Minister why this decision was taken and if the Police will release any informative communication about the evidence and reasons that led to this decision”, the MP continues.
This is the first reaction from Greece in a political level. Although we don’t know yet if the Interior Minister will answer to the interpellation, the reactions related to Mema’s case have been openly declared in Athens, increasing this way the pressure in Greece.
Other reactions are expected from other political groups and local media.
