Tirana, scandal with waste management

The plant that has been established near the Vaqarr commune for
processing waste materials is already working without an environmental
permit.

The Socialist councilors at the Tirana Municipality accused the Mayor of Tirana, Lulzim Basha, of not allowing the Roma people to collect recyclable materials in order to favor a company that has been registered only recently.

“The independent journalists of the Idea Newspaper have investigated the reports made a few weeks earlier. The waste monopoly, as a mafia style structure, is not up and running in Tirana. Basha must answer to the Tirana citizens about the company that is protected 247 by the Municipality uniform police. Who is the only owner that controls this business by damaging the poorest of the people? Do they have an environmental permit? The Ministry of Environment must answer for this”, declared Aldrin Dalipi, head of the Socialist Councilors at the Municipality.

Dalipi says that the Tirana Municipality has allowed this company to exploit the processing of the waste materials that the trash collection companies deposit in Sharra.

The councilors want explanations why the waste materials are being exploited without a tender, since the market has dozens of recycling companies, and above all, why was it given to a company that has no environmental permit.

Initially the municipality stopped the Roma people who were collecting recycling materials at the landfill, but it wasn’t enough, because later the Roma wasn’t allowed to collect them even in Tirana’s waste bins, so that they can all be sent to this company.

Reliable sources say that the company that enjoys the exclusivity is called “Green” and is represented by Oliver Shtylla, who in his professional profile says that he is a manager at the Megatek Business Center. The same sources say that this company doesn’t have an environmental permit from the Ministry of Environment while it operates near the Erzen River. Specialists say that this is intolerable.
