Tirana, Roma shacks burned

15 shacks that sheltered Roma community residents have been totally burned in a field near Shkoza, Tirana, a known suburb for the Roma community presence.

Officials have reported that the fire has caused no victims, but only material damages.

Firefighters and Police arrived on the scene, isolating the area for avoiding any Roma residents getting hurt through the shacks.

Unofficial police sources say that some people are being interrogated and for the moment there are several versions on the cause of the fire.

The first version blames an electrical spark that might have caused the fire and the panicked Roma residents have left the scene immediately.

Same unofficial sources say that the fire has been set by a Roma resident to his own shack, who protested by saying that he needed a house and not a shack. However, no official version has been given for this fire.

One month ago, 45 Roma families that lived in shacks near the Tirana Train Station remained homeless after their shacks were burned due to a conflict with two persons who now are facing prison for stimulating racism.
