The Union of Public Transport has announced that starting from Monday, public transport lines in the Albanian capital will operate in reduced mode.
The Union says that this decision comes as a result of the numerous financial challenges that the operators of this service are facing. “Despite the fact that the concern has been addressed several times, no preventive measures have been taken to alleviate the situation”, says the Union, as it asks the responsible bodies to start a constructive dialogue to address the financial concerns and operational challenges that are affecting this service.
“The Union of Public Transport regrettably announces that, starting from Monday, public transport services in the district of Tirana for all urban city lines will operate with reduced means. This decision comes as a result of the many challenges and financial concerns that the operators of this service have faced recently.
“Despite our best efforts, the operators of urban city lines have encountered significant difficulties in maintaining the operation of public transport services at full capacity. We have diligently tried to address these issues by seeking multiple opportunities for constructive dialogue with the responsible bodies. We have raised our concerns, discussed the problems facing our services and presented possible solutions, but unfortunately, no preventative measures or responses have been taken to mitigate the situation.”
“The Public Transport Union urges the responsible bodies to urgently initiate a constructive and meaningful dialogue to address the financial concerns and operational challenges affecting our services. Only through cooperative efforts and a unified approach can we ensure the smooth operation of public transport in Tirana.
“We kindly request the support of the media to raise awareness of the current situation facing our public transport services. Emphasizing the urgency of the matter, we hope to attract the attention of the relevant authorities to engage in productive discussions and to take the necessary steps to resolve the issues in question”, the officials added.
“We remain hopeful that with quick actions and collective efforts, we can overcome these obstacles and restore the full functioning of public transport for the benefit of our citizens,” the Transport Union said in a statement.
