Tirana Paediatric without medicine

Albania’s biggest hospital is facing a medicine shortage, starting from the most important ones and even thermometers.

The Paediatric Pavilion doesn’t have antibiotics since November, and neither specific medicine for tumour diseases, such as cytostatics.

The children’s parents say they buy everything in the surrounding pharmacies.

“I have bought everything. They had nothing. You’ll do everything for your child”, one of them declared.

The paediatric doctors say they feel bad when telling parents they’ll have to buy the medicine, but it is inevitable.

Hospital sources add that the absence of medicine is due to fund delays.

The state gives $15 million each year, and almost half of it goes for medicine. According to the Tirana Hospital, the tender procedures start right after the funds are given.
