Tirana Municipality sued for changing Main Square project

The works at Tirana’s main Square, “Skenderbej Square”, in which the Municipality is paving
the roads once again, will be sued at the Tirana Prosecution by the Socialist
Municipal Councilors. They claim that the legal procedures are being infringed,
and it is not known if there is a project for that.

Aldrin Dalipi, head of the Socialist Municipal Councilors explains why they favor efforts for reducing traffic, but not by wasting millions of euros in works without a project.

“We don’t know if there is a project or not, because it hasn’t passed through the National Council of Territory Regulation. There are million of euros that are being buried, and we have no legal aspect for reviewing it at the Municipal Council. We will address this problem to the Prosecution, for not allowing abuses with the donators’ money”, Dalipi declared.

He also emphasizes that the traffic problem must be solved for the citizens, but not by destroying projects that have been evaluated by an international jury and that has also been approved by the Council of Territory Regulation.

“It is in our interest to solve the traffic problem in Tirana, but not by throwing away a project that has been valued by an international jury. The traffic problem would have been solved if the government of Mr. Basha would not had blocked the road rings for such a long time”, Dalipi declared.

After the suits for abuses at the Durres-Kukes road, when he was Minister of the Public Works; after the suit for reducing Albania’s maritime borders to Greece, when he was Foreign Minister; and after the suit for the tragic events of January 21st that resulted with the death of 4 innocent protesters, when he was Interior Minister; Basha is now facing another suit, for the works at the Skenderbej Square, as Mayor of Tirana.
