Tirana Municipality will publish tomorrow a list of fines and other penalties for those who inflict damage on public property, harm the environment or occupy public spaces. Mayor Erion Veliaj announced the new measures while presenting Arian Hamiti, the new manager of the branches of the Municipality.
“We have set up a penalty system for individuals who urinate in public and businesses involved with illegal building”, Veliaj said in front of reporters, adding that those responsible for these acts will be the sole to pay, to avoid spreading the bill to all the honest members of the community.
The Mayor said fines and penalties will be published in advance, and wrongdoers will have to pay 100% of costs of the damages inflicted.
Veliaj also commented on the municipality action to liberate public spaces, which began on unit 5 of the city, but will soon expand in other areas. “While generating more public spaces of hundreds and thousands of inhabitants, we also managed to six-fold the revenues”, Veliaj said.
The mayor also repeated his call for Tirana citizens to join the large scale volunteer action to polish Tirana, due to start in September and added he personally intended to send people a letter with his request.
