Tirana Municipality doubles taxes

Small businesses complain for paying double the taxes that they used to pay in 2011 to the Tirana Municipality.

Their concern was reported at Top Channel’s investigative show “Fiks Fare”, where they showed that the Municipality inspectors have calculated a bigger turnaround than what they actually have.

“I have to pay 78.000 ALL for this year, the double of one year ago. I have a very small shop, and I have to pay for a 30 million ALL of annual turnover, when I have declared 12 million. They promised to reduce taxes, not double them”, one shop owner says.

The Socialist Councilors at the Municipal Council expressed their concern regarding the citizens’ complaints, asking Basha to stop this mechanism that becomes a burden for the citizens in this time of crisis.

“We have received concerns for the annual tax assessments in 2012. It is the double of what they had to pay in 2011. The mechanism of the income assessment is arbitrary and not according to the law. When approving the budget, we declared that we will support every policy that formalizes the economy by respecting the law, but we cannot stay silent in front of this massacre against business, because doubling the tax obligations in this difficult time of crisis means accelerating the bankruptcy of their economic activity. These concerns come from different areas of Tirana”, declared Adriana Berberi, vice Chairman of the Economy Commission at the Municipal Council.

The head of the Socialist Councilors, Aldrin Dalipi, declared that he will request a specific session at the Municipal Council, in which the Mayor should explain what is happening with the small business, while he had promised to reduce taxes and fees.

“We warned this situation when we reported the big public lie with the promise for removing 60 taxes and fees. We have warned this when we said that the Budget 2012 was not realistic, while the Tirana citizens today face pressure from the Municipality, only due to the incapability of this administration. We will ask explanations by the Tirana Mayor and a special session for hearing the citizens at the Tirana Municipal Council, in order to stop this unacceptable situation”, Dalipi declared.

The merchants complain that they are paying the cleaning fee twice for the same place, because it has been paid once by the shop owner, and then by the businesses that rent it.
