A meeting against organized crime is being held in Tirana with the
initiative of the European Union. The Minister of Justice, Eduard
Halimi, spoke about a severe hit that has been given to this phenomenon.

Halimi declared that Albania is not a shelter of organized crime and drug traffic any more.

“Albania is not a shelter of organized crime. We have signed agreements with the Italian counterpart and we have arrested many people that were wanted by the justice of this country. Crime has no more shelter in Albania”, Halimi declared.

The Minister added that the governing majority has approved a series of laws against organized crime, seizing 20 million of EUR of illegal assets, such as apartments, businesses and real property.

Present in this meeting was the Head of the Court of Serious Crimes, Sander Simoni, who declared that regardless the achievements, the war against this phenomenon continues.

“The battle against organized crime continues. However, the Court of Serious Crimes has justified the work for which it was created”, Simoni declared.

Representatives of the EURALIUS mission have confirmed their support to the Albanian authorities in this battle.

Despite the declarations of Minister Halimi, the organized crime in Albania keeps being present and have its influence in the European drug markets.

Even the reports of the international institutions show that Albania’s progresses in the war against crime and drug traffic have been minimal.
