The IPA Adriatic Inter-border cooperation has gathered in Aquila, Italy, representatives from many Balkan countries and also the Speaker of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani.

Present in this activity, the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, presented plans for Albania’s capital, saying that the city is now listed as a trusted partner for implementing IPA funds that come from the EU.

“We have had some successful projects, one of which was the Ardian Klosi School.  We also had several kindergartens, reconstruction of neighborhood blocks and many auditors”, Mayor Veliaj said.

However, Veliaj says that Tirana should be more aggressive to attract these funds.

“I am very happy about the way how Tirana not only attracts, but also uses EU funds with efficiency. I am looking forward to be even more aggressive, in the good sense of the word, to attract more foreign funds in Tirana, mainly to use all the IPA instruments, before EU accession, to make sure that Tirana is always avant-garde. We must admit that our ambition is very big, considering the modest budgets that we have in Albania”, Veliaj said.

The IPA Adriatic program is one of the most important ones, related to territorial cooperation in the Adraitic-Ionnian area, with a 244 million EUR budget.
