Tirana Mayor: “Albania, our joint project for all generations”

The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, declared on Tirana’s main square for the 105th anniversary of Independence, that Albania is our joint project.
The ceremony was held on the Skanderbeg square, surrounded symbolically by stone slabs and tree types from all Albanian lands, under the notes of the national anthem, played by 60 guitarists.
Present were Vice Mayor of Tirana, Andi Seferi, the Prefect of Tirana, Suzana Jahollari; the Chairman of the Municipal Council, Aldrin Dalipi; and members f the Tirana Municipal Council; representatives of religious communities and Tirana citizens.
“This is the most beautiful day for Albanians, wherever they may live. It is a holy day for us, a moment to remind the long path we had to take since 105 years ago when the fathers of our nation declared our independence. November 28th, 1912, was the glorification of a long battle to create our state. But that wasn’t the end of the line. The fathers of our nation, who raised the flag in Vlora that day, were only the start of an even more difficult challenge, that of taking a country ravaged by war and building a modern European state”, Veliaj said.
The Mayor reminds that such important days in the history of Albania should tell young generations hw the sacrifices of our predecessors were made for a better Albania and with a safer future.
For this reason, Veliaj said, today’s message is that every generation, at any time of history, must keep contributing for Albania’s project. “Albania is not just our country and our motherland. It is our joint project, for every generation to do its part, to do its mission for making the country progress. You must know the history of the Skanderbeg square. Its construction started in 1913 and it was finally realized in 2017, just a few months ago. This is a project that reminds us of Albania, how the generation of one century ago brought to life a project which was inherited to younger generation, until it was finalized with success in 2017, to give Albanians the 0 Kilometer, the space that represents our unity as a nation and the long path of our ambitions”, Veliaj declared.
