Tirana Mayor: “2018, biggest budget ever. Tourism grew 2.5 fold”

The Municipality of Tirana voted the budget of 2018 with 32 votes.

The investments will be 16% higher than 2017, while the opposition did not participate in the voting.

Mayor Veliaj listed the projects that would improve not only central Tirana but also its suburbs, especially infrastructure in rural areas.

“2018 is the budget of all citizens because it includes the entire territory of Tirana, from the centre to the farthest suburbs”, Veliaj said.

Veliaj said that the fact that this is the third year that the budget s growing, gives them the right to be proud for their work, and gives them a reason to feel optimistic that the next year will be even better for Tirana.

The Mayor listed the works that were done during this year, which can be considered as a good one for Albania’s capital, according to Veliaj.

“The number of tourists visiting Tirana grew 2.5 times in 2017, compared to 2016. We hope that the growth in 2018 will be even more spectacular, also thanks to the work that we have done with the square, the heart of the city and the suburbs”, the Mayor said.

“The ‘New Market’ area has turned from ugly ruins into one of Tirana’s best attractions, showing that well thought strategic investments can turn into sources of economic growth for the city. The main square is an agora of the city, one of the most popular destinations of Tirana”, Veliaj said, adding that this year they will work to turn the Sports Palace “Asllan Rusi” into an elite sportive area for the capital, while they will keep working for the “Olympic Park”.
