For the second time in two years, the Prime Minister Sali Berisha has pressed a button that blows off a piece of a mountain.

After the Kalimashi Mountain, not it is the turn of the Kërraba Mountain at the area of Ibe, through which will pass the Tirana-Elbasan tunnel. This highway, 31.7 kilometers long, with two 2.4 km tunnels, seven overpasses and four underpasses, with a driving speed of 120 kmhour, will shorten the distance between the Albanian capital and Elbasan, and will also approach all southeastern Albania, from Korça to Kolonja.

The Prime Minister Berisha said that this highway is the second greatest construction in the history of Albania, after the Durres-Kukes highway.

“The roads are life, and we are creating a giant living being that will connect Tirana with Elbasan. This contributes to the construction of Europe in Albania. Our European dream will become reality with every road that we will build, with every aqueduct, with every school, with every public and private construction”, Berisha said.

According to the Prime-Minister, the highway, being an important connection for the Corridor 8 and for the Southern Axis, will open another dimension for the markets and for the employment of the Albanians.

“The highway Tiranë-Elbasan creates the greatest market region in Albania and one of the biggest in the region. Tirana-Elbasan-Durrës will turn into a unique market”, Berisha said.
