The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Damian Gjiknuri, was today at the Prosecution of Serious Crimes for the Tirana-Elbasan corruption case investigation.
After testifying, Gjiknuri refused to give details about the case, but he said that he had to give his arguments after filing the report, after the audit. “We expect the investigation to be successful”, the Minister declared.
The Prosecution has already summoned the former Ministers of Infrastructure, Edmond Haxhinasto and Sokol Dervishaj.
Minister Gjiknuri filed a report at the Prosecution for possible corruption with the construction of the Tirana-Elbasan road. The report was based on an audit of the Ministry, which found several violations.
The Prosecution also suspects that former officials of the Road Authority have abused with their power in cooperation, ordering 12 changes of the initial contract.
These unstudied amendments have caused an economic damage that has not been assessed yet, but it will be decided later by a group of independent experts, asked by the Prosecution.
