The Minister of Defense, Mimi Kodheli, accompanied by the Chief of the
General Staff of the Army, appeared at the Parliament’s Foreign
Commission after a request made one week ago by the Socialist MP, Ben
Blushi, regarding of the stance held by Albania on the Ukraine crisis.
The Minister of Defense released a short declaration before the meeting, condemning the military intervention of the Russian in Federation in Ukraine.
“We favor the territorial sovereignty and integrity of Ukraine, and we support the right of the Ukrainian people to decide their future without interventions from abroad”, Minister Kodheli declared.
The Head of the Foreign Commission, Arta Dade, declared that Albania has a unified stance with the NATO and international strategic partners.
However, even on this matter the Albanian politics couldn’t find consensus. The opposition raised the question why the Prime Minister has not issued a declaration, saying that the declaration of the Foreign Ministry was unclear in condemning the Russian aggression.
When asked by Top Channel if the opposition was insinuating for a new approach of Tirana to Russia, Bumci declared:
“I’m not insinuating anything, I’m just emphasizing facts. The fact is that the Prime Minister hasn’t issued any declaration”.
