Albania is reviewing relations with Serbia. Our Foreign Ministry
confirmed that all official visits to this country have been suspended,
based on the behaviour shown by Serbia against the Presheva Albanains.

The Foreign Minister, Edmond Panariti, could not be present in a session summoned by the opposition. Instead, the Director for EU and Regional Matters answered to the Parliamentary Foreign Commission.

“We cannot be passive to the way how the Serbian government acted against the Albanian and Serbian citizens in Presheva, and the Albanians in the entire region, an neither to their behaviour against the statement released by the Albanian government. This is under review and we haven’t decided yet the level of the Albanian reaction. The visit of the Health Minister to Belgrade was postponed. It is important that other visits of different levels should show a will to improve our relations”, declared Ilda Zhulali.

The Chairman of the Commission, Fatos Beja, asked the Foreign Ministry to address the EU Commissioner of Minority Protection to be present in Serbia when this country will guarantee the rights of the Albanian minority.

Vice Chairwoman Arta Dade also added that our diplomacy should address Brussels to increase pressure against Serbians, as a candidate country for the EU.

“Serbia received the EU candidate status and I believe that we should have had meetings with EU personalities and representatives. We followed a session of the EP Foreign Commission in connection with the resolution for Serbia and Kosovo. They focused on matters related with the dialogue, but I think that the Presheva situation should also be discussed”, Dade declared.

The MPs at the Parliamentary Foreign Commission condemned the actions of Serbia, considering them as an reactivation of Milosevic’s circles.
