Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Roland Bimo, diplomat and former General Secretary of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, and Bashkim Zeneli, former ambassador and politician,
think that the Lezhe incident with the Albanian President is not due to
the state protocol.
According to them, the incident is political and they simply didn’t want the President there.
“Protocol
conflicts in Albania have become very normal and it doesn’t attract the
attention of anybody. But this doesn’t mean that these are normal and
that shouldn’t be corrected, because it is the figure, the presence of
the Albanian state that is affected by this. The only thing that I had
suspicions about in that news broadcasted by Top Channel one day ago,
was the role of the protocol. I have worked at the Foreign Ministry for
30 years, and I know pretty well the people who work at the Protocol.
They are best professionals that we have and the responsibility doesn’t
fall upon them. The civil employees face pressures to the point that
they cannot handle them, and this is the reason why these things happen.
There is no reason for these four or five institutions to be involved
in this extraordinary significant event for the history of Albania, the
Lezhe Covenant. We have the Lezhe Municipality, the State Protocol, the
Parliament Office, the Prime Ministry, the President’s office. Why the
representatives of these institutions are unable to produce a compromise
that is acceptable for everyone? It will remain for a long time in the
history of this country the fact that the Albanian President was not
present at the celebrations for the Lezhe Covenant, naturally, not for
his fault. You cannot blame the President for this”, Bimo declared.
The
same opinion was given by Bashkim Zeneli, who adds that the
inter-institutional relations are seen very closely by the European
Union.
“I don’t think that there is anything to see at the State
Protocol. This seems a clear political stance. Naturally, these things
have not happened only today, but they have never been at this size. The
relations between the majority and the opposition are always relations
of an honest war, but the institutional relations, which are written
once and for all, are reports that should not be damaged. I think that
the European Union, the great civilized family to which we want to be
part of, will take note”, Zeneli declared.
