The victims of the “Embassy Bomb”

The Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli, organized a ceremony for the
22 Albanian intellectuals that were executed without a trial 61 years
ago, charged of placing a bomb at the Soviet embassy.

A short documentary with historical facts of the time showed how the political bureau of Enver Hoxha had already decided the list with the people to be executed, all from the country’s elite, only because they did not support the dictatorship.

The Parliament Speaker and PM Berisha gave two messages: the first was to confront the historical past, no matter how shameful and painful it was, so that the future of the country could not be damaged by such national tragedies.

The second message was addressed to the Socialist Party, considered by the Democratic leaders as the party of Enver Hoxha, and asking them to apologize for the crimes made for 5 decades.

By underlining the care that his government has shown towards the politically persecuted people, Berisha did not hesitate to accuse President Bamir Topi of applying double standards with this category.

Berisha declared that five years ago, the Democratic Party sent its representatives to the Presidency, believing that he belonged to the Albanian right wing parties, but the President refused to sign the Lustration Law.
