Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future During an interview for Top-Channel, the opposition leader, Edi
Rama, called the Socialist Program “the basis of the governing program”. It was published this Thursday and was titled “The Albanian Rebirth”.
TCH: Mr. Rama, do you think that your progressive tax project will damage business?
Rama: Absolutely not. On the contrary, our project will enable 95% of the Albanians to buy more goods, and the business will have more active consumers. On the other hand, those who have been pressured by references of mafia style extortions, with the lack of market competitiveness, will be liberated by all references, extortions and the chains of this government’s clientele. Not only 95% of the Albanians will pay fewer taxes, but they will also be liberated from the 5% that makes the law in this government’s court, as their direct clients.
TCH: Is your tax model based on one of a western country?
Rama: The progressive tax means that those who don’t gain much money, will pay fewer taxes and those who gain more will pay more. It is a vital norm in the western fiscal system, while the flat tax is a failed experience. It has shown that it not only doesn’t create new jobs, but it creates an extreme social polarization, as it is happening with Berisha’s Albania.
TCH: The program that the Socialist Party presented, is it a governing or a political program?
Rama: It is the basis of our future governing program. It is the basic program that we will discuss door to door with the people, for turning it into a detailed governing program. We will stand for every solemn commitment, starting with a just wealth distribution and an Albania without waste materials.
TCH: Which will be your absolute governing priority?
Rama: Let’s say that the basic priority is the radical change of the governing model, by changing the economic and the social model, by changing the democratic functioning model and the Country’s Europeanization.
TCH: Your critics consider this program as unrealizable and a fake promise. In fact, these are the political promises of any politician that seeks power. Why should the Albanians trust that you will improve their life with this program?
Rama: I believe that democracy has one good thing, which is the best thing that makes democracy the most valuable system for the citizen. Who governs and cannot keep the promises should leave. Who promises, must have the chance to govern and then the democracy functions the same for everyone. What I would say, is that the critics should continue their job, we will continue ours and we will explain to the Albanians that this is not an electoral pamphlet, but a real program for putting Albania out of a cyclic crisis that has been going on for the last 20 years, and in the last 6 years has reached to the point of the extreme.
TCH: Which is your message on the verge of the SP congress?
Rama: This congress is a moment for clearly showing who we are, why we are together and how do we want to govern Albania.
