The sale of army assets

After making reports from the terrain for several days for the sale of
the military assets throughout Albania, the Socialist MP, Taulant Balla,
made a summary to the figures and facts of what the SP considered a
catastrophe with the public real estate, mostly managed by the Ministry
of Defence, led by Arben Imami.

984 military bases make 17 million square meters in objects and lands, property of the Albanian army. Mr. Balla declared that the price is much lower than the real one, bringing to the public’s attention that these assets are found throughout the entire territory of Albania.

The Socialist MP declared that this process was undertaken without respecting any law and by avoiding the Parliament. He added that this process is completely non-transparent and illegal, and the needs of the Armed Forces were never taken in consideration.

“We weren’t surprised that the family of Prime Minister Berisha was also involved in this affair. A property of the Ministry of Defence in the centre of Tirana was returned to Jamarber Malltezi, the son in law of our Prime Minister”, the Socialist MP declared, promising that they will make full transparency when in government.

“The Socialist Party promises to make a full transparency of these properties when we will win the elections of 2013. This is an asset that belongs to the Albanians, and this administration is robbing it and giving it away. These 17 million square meters of assets do not belong to Berisha or Arben Imami. They belong to the Albanians and this country”, Balla declared.

Ministry: We don’t sell real estates

The Ministry of Defence reacted against the declarations of the Socialist Party, saying that they do not sell real estates, but 70% of them were given to the former owners through an auction procedure.

“The closing conference of Taulant Balla was the shameful closure of the campaign against the Ministry of Defence. In the last three years, the local administration and the other institutions have received 71 assets, according to their requests”, declared Edvin Kulluri, General Secretary of the Ministry of Defence.

“From 25 properties, 70% of them have been returned to the former owners, with an auction procedure held by the Ministry of Finances”, the official declared.
