Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The government admitted that a good part of the mining sector is outside
the control of the authorities and is exploited illegally by mysterious
companies.
“It is necessary to end this situation, because it only brings illegal exploitation of the natural assets of our country and causes great consequences for the safety of the workers”, Haxhinasto declared.
Haxhinasto added that this is the main cause of the accidents that has taken the life of dozens of miners in the galleries of the country.
“We can say that 90% of the accidents in mines have happened because of these subjects operate without license and outside the standards, hence it is indispensable to end this situation”, the Minister declared.
The Minister warned during a special meeting with the prefects of the mining areas, specialists of the sector and representatives of the police that the government will reactivate the task force for inspecting the mines.
“The monitoring of the realization of investments will be vigal in our work. The efficiency increase of this sector will be realized in integral ways, by engaging all institutions, ministries, local administration, police and task forces so that this vital sector for the economy will reach another standard that not only increases the productivity, but establishes European standards in its functionality, the guarantee of life safety for the workers and the enrichment and extraction of the minerals, so that its value can be exploited maximally in full accordance with the law and the environment”, the minister declared.
The illegal exploitation of mines by incriminated people or individuals vested with government power came to life after 2005, when the chrome price in international markets increased. The failure of the authorities to disciplinate the sector cost millions of USD to the state and were followed by tragic consequences.
Dozens of miners have died, while the war between rivals has peaked to the use of firearms in broad daylight, causing even innocent victims.
