Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The map of the Albanian agricultural exports was extended this year,
reaching some European markets such as Germany, the Czech Republic,
Poland, Hungaria and even the UK. The Minister of Agriculture says that
one of the main reasons is related with the atmospheric conditions in
these countries.
“There was a better situation in the international markets, where winter was very harsh this year, especially in Central Eruope, making their production to be ready with 15 or 20 days later, what has increased the demand. The Albanian productions have profited and have found a better market compared to the last years”, declared the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Ndoc Fasllia.
During the first six months of this year, Albania has exported to the European markets, – without forgetting Kosovo and the neighboring markets of Macedonia or Serbia – more than 30.000 tons of fruits and vegetables. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the 12% export increase compared to one year ago has softened the gap with the imports.
“5-6 years ago we had a 12 times more import than exports. Today it is only seven, and with a tendency to fall each year”, Fasllia declared.
According to the Minister of Agriculture, the demand increase for the Albanian products is an indicator of the quality, justifying the suspicions that the Albanian farmers have started using hormones. Most of the exported vegetables are tomatoes from Berat and Divjaka, followed by melons.
