The Finiqi archeological park, situated 8 kilometers from Saranda, has received no investments or attention from specialists for years.
The territory is not surrounded or protected, and covered by wild vegetation. The digging teams have been seen very rarely. Finiqi was the center of the ancient Caonia, and in 234 B.C it became the center of the Epirus.
20% of the families in Finiq are ready to connect their daily activities with the archeological park by working for its arrangement or by creating service points for visitors.
The local authorities estimate that if the Park would have been working normally, the visitors would show 20 times more interest for Finiqi. The archeological area has been stolen several times and the monuments have been damaged.
